One to one online tuition

Online Ableton Live Lessons and Courses

One to one Ableton Live tuition, online, built around the music you actually want to make. No fixed syllabus and no cookie-cutter course. I work out where you are, where you want to get to, and we build the path between the two, whether that's house, techno, drum and bass, garage, ambient or something you haven't put a name to yet.

Why one to one

Why one to one Ableton lessons beat YouTube tutorials

If you've spent months on YouTube and still can't finish a track, that's not a you problem. It's a format problem.

Tutorials are made for nobody in particular. They can't see your project, they don't know which bit you're stuck on, and they contradict each other constantly. Three videos on sidechain compression will give you three different answers, and none of them will tell you which one applies to the track open on your screen right now.

One to one Ableton tuition removes the guesswork. We look at your actual session. I hear what you're trying to make. Then I teach the thing you need next, in the order you need it, which is almost never the order a course syllabus would have picked.

I don't teach a syllabus. I teach you.

Choosing

Which Ableton course is right for me?

Most people aren't sure, and that's fine. It depends on two things: how much you already know, and how far you want to take it.

Never opened Ableton, or opened it once and retreated? The Beginner Course. Twelve sessions is enough to go from nothing to finishing tracks.

Been producing a while, self-taught, and stuck? The Masterclass. Thirty-two sessions is enough to rebuild your foundations and fix the things quietly holding your tracks back, without losing what you already have.

Got a specific problem and a deadline? The five session bundle. Bring the track and we'll sort it.

Still not sure? Book a free thirty minute call and we'll work it out together. We'll talk through your goals, your experience and the music you want to make, and I'll recommend the right option. If that turns out to be none of them, I'll say so.

Why learn with me

Why learn Ableton with Decloak

  • Using Ableton since 2006, teaching it since 2014. Twenty years in the software and over 11,000 hours of one to one lessons delivered.
  • A releasing artist, not just a tutor. I've been putting music out since 2010 and spent a decade DJing with Micron, so you're learning from someone who finishes tracks, signs them and plays them out.
  • Over 200 students. Plenty of them now release and perform. Have a look at the testimonials or the news for recent student releases.
  • Genuinely tailored. Pick your genre, your pace and your focus, and I build the course around it.
  • Mixing from day one. Mixing isn't a separate phase you get to later. It's part of how you make decisions, so we apply it from the start.
  • Theory, because it makes you faster. Not for its own sake. Knowing why something works makes the next decision an educated one rather than a lucky one.

What students say

I booked the free intro call to get advice. Jack listened, gave honest feedback, and helped me choose the perfect course.

Amy L. Berlin

Dropped in for a session with Jack today as I was a bit rusty and looking for a bit of a kickstart getting back into things. Really intuitive session and insight into workflow which I’ll be taking into my own projects moving forward. Would definitely recommend and I’ll be booking in more sessions as soon as I can.

Ben M.

In a little over 6 months Jack has taken me from being literally scared of the german spreadsheet looking Ableton to be able to produce a full track start to finish. I had literally zero previous experience before

Lee A.

Jacks the best around. He’s taken me from never touching Ableton to having tracks singed in 6 month. Guys a genius.

Josh Reeves

Was trying to teach myself how to use Abelton on YouTube for way too long and just getting frustrated with it, I booked 10 hours with Jack after a friend’s reccomendation and I’m at the point where I can finish tracks and have fun with it. I’ll be reccomending him to friends in the future.

FAQs

Ableton lessons FAQs

Something not covered here? Ask me directly.

Do I need any experience to start learning Ableton?

No. Complete beginners are welcome, and a good chunk of my students have never opened a DAW. If you're moving across from Logic, FL Studio or Cubase, that's fine too, and we'll spend the first session translating what you already know rather than starting you from zero.

Is Ableton Live good for beginners?

Yes, with one caveat. Ableton is unusually good for beginners because Session View lets you make music before you understand song structure, which keeps you interested long enough to learn the rest. The caveat is that it looks like a spreadsheet the first time you open it and puts a lot of people off in the first hour. That first hour is exactly what one to one tuition is for.

How long does it take to learn Ableton Live?

To make a loop you're pleased with, one session. To finish a full track on your own, most of my students get there within about twelve sessions. To be genuinely fluent, where the software stops being the obstacle and your ideas are the only limit, a year or two of consistent work. Anyone promising faster than that is selling something.

What equipment do I need for online Ableton lessons?

A laptop or desktop with Ableton Live installed, a stable internet connection and headphones. That's genuinely it. You don't need a controller, a mic or monitors to start. If you're unsure whether your setup will cope, get in touch and I'll tell you honestly.

How do the online lessons work?

Ninety minutes, live and one to one over Zoom, with screen sharing and audio routing so I can hear your session properly. It works like sitting next to someone in a studio, which is the point.

What genres do you teach?

All electronic genres. House and techno are my home turf, but I regularly teach drum and bass, garage, ambient, breaks and hybrid stuff that doesn't fit a box. Sampling runs through everything I teach, whatever the genre.

Do you teach Ableton Live 12?

Yes. I teach whichever version you're running, and I'll point out where the newer features genuinely change how you should work rather than just being new.

How much do Ableton lessons cost?

Individual sessions work out at £72 each in the five session bundle, which is £360. The Beginner Course is £799 for twelve sessions and the Masterclass is £1,999 for thirty-two. The free intro call costs nothing and carries no obligation.

How are lessons scheduled?

Around you. Weekly, fortnightly, or in bursts when you have time. There's no fixed timetable. I ask for 24 hours' notice to move a session, and beyond that, life happens and we work with it.

What if I'm not sure which course to choose?

Book the free thirty minute call. We'll talk it through and I'll recommend something, including recommending you wait if that's the right answer.

Book a free 30 minute Ableton session

No pressure and no obligation. We'll talk through where you are, what you want to make, and whether I'm the right fit. If I'm not, I'll tell you.
